Sameen Zehra, a Trinity College student majoring in peace, conflict & justice, is a fundraiser, a community leader and a peer mentor who brings people together for change and creates new opportunities for her fellow students. As president of the University of Toronto Refugee Alliance — a student-led organization committed to raising awareness about refugee issues — Zehra has led fundraising initiatives that have raised $10,000 in support of the Red Cross and the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture. She’s also deeply involved in the community through her leadership at Sol Music — a program that provides free, weekly piano and guitar lessons to students in Toronto’s Alexandra Park neighbourhood. Not only has her work with Sol Music directly impacted the students in Alexandra Park, it has also created a space where like-minded student volunteers learn from one another through weekly discussion groups and teaching workshops. Zehra has also been a peer mentor in the Munk One “Buddy” Program, as well as to Peace, Conflict and Justice program students.
