Admissions Awards

Eligibility: An incoming PhD student registered in a Faculty of Arts & Science program who has demonstrated academic excellence in their application and self-identifies as Indigenous and/or Black.
Criteria: Academic excellence
Nomination: by the unit offering admissions
Application: For 2023-2024 Admissions cycle, applicants who receive offers of admissions are invited to inform the offering unit that they self-identify as Indigenous and/or Black and would like to be considered for this award. Units may then, based on number of qualified candidates, make nominations to the Office of the Dean, who will approve the awards up to a certain number per unit as requests are made.
Deadline for Nomination: Rolling, units may request Recognition of Excellence Awards as they extend offers of admissions throughout the Winter/Spring. Usually, units have up to two (2) Recognition of Excellence recipients per year. Awards are available on a first requested, first granted basis.

Payment: 2023-2024 Academic Year. Recipients must remain registered for three (3) full sessions to retain funds.

Women graduate students registered in a Faculty of Arts & Science mathematics or science program who will be continuing their program in the Fall 2023 session.
Criteria:
Academic merit and financial need. Seven (7) of the ten (10) awards will be awarded in compliance with Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) requirements, which include Ontario residency and financial need.
Nomination:
Students must submit an application to their graduate unit by the unit’s application deadline. Each graduate unit may nominate two (2) students for consideration. Graduate units may email application packages to graduateawards.artsci@utoronto.ca by the nomination deadline.

Academic Excellence is the Faculty of Arts & Science’s top priority for graduate education. The Faculty of Arts & Science has established a new suite of awards to recognize the very best doctoral students and their achievements.
Value and Number of Awards:
- One (1) Dean’s Doctoral Excellence Scholarship of $25,000.
- Three (3) A&S Doctoral Excellence Scholarships of $5,000.
- These scholarships will be provided on top of any other funding package or award that the recipient may receive.
Eligibility:
Doctoral students registered in the Faculty of Arts & Science who will be continuing their program in 2023–24.
Criteria:
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Academic excellence;
- Originality and significance of the body of work within the applicant’s fields of research;
- Quality of publications relative to the stage of the career, recognizing that publication expectations vary by program of study;
- Evidence of impact of the applicant’s work within their fields of research;
- Level of engagement and quality of training and mentoring provided to students, emerging scholars and participants, relative to the applicant’s career level; and
- Potential for leadership and societal contributions within and/or beyond the academic community.

Master’s or Doctoral students registered in the Faculty of Arts & Science who will be continuing their program in the Fall 2023 session.
Criteria:
Academic merit and financial need. Each applicant must be registered in a graduate program and pursuing study or research in Ukrainian Studies. Preference will be given to students in History and the Social Sciences.
Two-thirds of the award recipients must meet OSOTF criteria, which include Ontario residency. As a result, one-third of the recipients do not need to meet OSOTF criteria (i.e.: international students may apply) but must still meet the eligibility & criteria listed above.
