A documentary film co-directed by Cinema Studies Institute assistant professor Brett Story chronicling the first successful union campaign at a facility operated by online retailer Amazon, continues to strike a chord with viewers and workers alike, as noted in the Globe and Mail.
Union, which screens this weekend at Toronto’s Hot Docs Cinema, captures the process of organizing labour, with the Globe and Mail describing it as “a political film of rare intimacy” and “quietly inspirational.” Of the personalities in the film, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award the day before thousands of Amazon employees walked off the job in December, Story says, “It’s really valuable to see people win.”
