Grants, Awards and Financial Aid
A&S Fund for Indigenous Research Excellence
- The Arts & Science Fund for Indigenous Research Excellence supports faculty-member-led research taking place in partnership with Indigenous organizations and communities on Indigenous territories and/or about Indigenous lands. While applications are welcomed from all eligible A&S faculty members, the program is primarily intended to support research led by Indigenous faculty members.
A&S Indigenous Experiential Learning Fund
- The Indigenous Experiential Learning Fund supports the development of partnerships between A&S instructors and Indigenous communities, Indigenous-related curricular experiential-learning opportunities for students, and greater access to curricular experiential learning for Indigenous students.
A&S Recognition of Excellence Award for Indigenous and Black Students
- The A&S Recognition of Excellence Award for Indigenous and Black Students is an admission award for incoming Arts & Science PhD students who have demonstrated academic excellence and identify as Indigenous and/or Black.
Undergraduate Student Awards & Financial Aid
- The university offers thousands of student awards annually based on a variety of eligibility criteria. A number of these awards are dedicated to self-identifying Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit and Métis) students.
Indigenous Tuition Initiative
- The Indigenous Tuition Initiative includes the U of T Indigenous Tuition Grant which covers the cost of tuition in eligible undergraduate and graduate programs for students from nine identified First Nations communities.
Graduate Student & Postdoctoral Fellow Awards
- The School of Graduate Studies lists a variety of awards for Indigenous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Office of Indigenous Initiatives
- The Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII), situated within the portfolios of the Vice-President of People Strategy, Equity & Culture and the Vice-President & Provost, supports and guides the U of T community as it continues to work towards reconciliation. The OII advises on and oversees Indigenous initiatives across the university, conducting regular environmental scans to establish the impact and progress of such initiatives. It also manages the activities of the Council of Indigenous Initiatives.
Indigenous Research Network
- The Indigenous Research Network (IRN) is an Institutional Strategic Initiative at the University of Toronto that aims to lead the transformation of academic practices in Canada by cultivating local, national and international networks of Indigenous researchers and scholars working with Indigenous Peoples. The IRN supports Indigenous research projects at U of T, helps Indigenous researchers secure grants, provides training in Indigenous research practices and helps institute a new set of norms for working respectfully with Indigenous communities.
First Nations House Indigenous Student Services
- First Nations House (FNH) Indigenous Student Services provides culturally relevant services to Indigenous students to support academic success, personal growth and leadership development. FNH offers learning opportunities for all students to engage with Indigenous communities at U of T and beyond.
