Statement of solidarity against anti-Asian racism

March 30, 2021 by A&S News

I am shocked and saddened by the recent tragic events in Atlanta, Georgia and the reports of increased anti-Asian racism, violence and harassment here in Toronto and around the world.

Racism has no place in our University community. President Meric Gertler’s statement on solidarity with the Asian community affirms our collective condemnation of anti-Asian discrimination and racism, and all forms of hate and racial violence. President Gertler’s statement also outlines supports and initiatives on anti-racism and allyship through the University of Toronto Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Office.

I share this commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and to confronting and eradicating anti-Asian racism and all discrimination. We know we still have work to do.

We are an incredibly diverse community at U of T and all of our members deserve a safe and welcoming place to work, teach and study.
