In the category of “Individual Sub-Websites,” the A&S Student Communications team took home a silver prize for their New Student Guide, an accessible and easy-to-use web destination for newly-admitted U of T students with important information on dates and deadlines, finances, course selection, campus orientations and more.

The guide was a success by all accounts, eventually capturing more than 8000 unique users and an average per-user return rate of 2.86 visits. It was used not only by newly-admitted students, but also by curious parents and guardians assisting their kids with navigating the first year of their studies.

In the category of “Fundraising Campaigns,” the A&S Advancement Communications team was awarded a gold prize for Starfinders: The Campaign for U of T Astronomy. Starfinders shares engaging stories of unique U of T Astronomy projects, including original research conducted by undergraduate students, a graduate student’s months-long trek to conduct research at the South Pole, and an innovative teacher-training program that aims to get young people interested in science via astronomy.

Finally, in the category of “Stewardship Initiatives” — a newly-created category this year — the A&S Advancement Communications team was awarded gold for the 2016/17 edition of The ArtSci Effect: Your Philanthropy in Action, an annual print and digital publication that details the impact of donations made to the Faculty.

The 2016/17 edition included features on that year’s $5 million contribution from the government of Japan to support Japanese studies at U of T, spotlights on extraordinary students supported by funds like the Skip Willis Undergraduate Scholarship and the Schulich Leader Scholarship, and many more inspiring stories of innovation and groundbreaking research made possible by the generosity of our donors.

All of these awards fall under CASE’s Accolades Awards program, whose aim is to “celebrate institutional accomplishments in the area of alumni relations, development, print, multi-media, marketing, communications, events, and program development.” See a complete list of 2019 Accolades winners.

The winners will be honoured at the CASE District II Conference in Philadelphia on March 24-26.
