Celebrate International Women’s Day at these events:

March 6

Hear a public lecture on “The Powerful Politics of Poetry” by poet, educator, journalist and advocate El Jones. Jones currently holds the Nancy’s Chair in Women’s Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University and is co-founder of the radio show Black Power Hour.

Watch a special screening of The Girls of Meru, a documentary about the heartbreaking yet uplifting journey of a group of girls in Meru, Kenya and their brave steps toward meaningful equality for girls worldwide. Stay for a panel discussion featuring the documentary’s award-winning director, Andrea Dorfman, after the screening.

March 7

Learn from a panel of three emerging U of T business founders at the RBC Innovation & Entrepreneurship Speaker Series: Female Founders Edition. Leila Keshavjee of Happy Pops, Saara Punjani of Structura Biotechnology and Pooja Viswanathan of Braze Mobility will discuss their entrepreneurial paths with Professor Christine Allen.

Join MoveU for She Moves!, a celebration of women, leadership and physical activity. Along with activities that will get you moving, the event will feature a panel discussion with a diverse group of inspirational women.

March 8

Attend a symposium featuring prominent female leaders from various fields who will examine advancements made by women in recent years and the challenges they continue to face. Rose Patten, Chancellor of the University of Toronto, will deliver the keynote speech.

Enjoy performances from some of the best artists, stand-up performers, improv actors, poets and writers in Toronto at a variety show celebrating the diversity and strength of women’s stories and art.

Attend the launch of a photography exhibition documenting women’s marches in Toronto and Washington by journalist and photographer Yafang Shi, who will take part in a Q&A panel discussion moderated by Professor Judith Taylor of the Department of Sociology and the Women and Gender Studies Institute.

Join Women’s College Hospital for a panel discussion on closing the health care gap moderated by Priya Sam, co-host of CTV’s Your Morning. Three WCH patients and their clinicians will share their stories highlighting some of the health gaps women face when accessing care.

March 9

Attend a roundtable brunch hosted by the Hart House Social Justice Committee, Amnesty International U of T and UN Women U of T before the International Women’s Day Rally & March kicks off at OISE.

March 15

Celebrate the incredible achievements of women everywhere at the annual WISE International Women’s Day Gala, a formal event which includes keynote speakers, a panel discussion, a catered dinner, a networking reception and various musical, dance and spoken word performances.
