The Faculty of Arts & Science has launched for Writers on Writing, an exciting new monthly series showcasing the diverse talent of writers in Arts & Science. From senior scholars to students, Writers on Writing explores the writing practices of members of the Arts & Science community who write about a wide spectrum of topics and issues — and in a variety of genres.
Launching Friday January 29 at 3 pm, the series offers lively and inspiring conversations about writing and is open to Arts & Science faculty members, students, staff and alumni. Future events will take place the last Friday of each month until May and then resume in September until December.
Hosted by Andrea Williams, an associate professor, teaching stream in the Writing & Rhetoric Program at Innis College and director of the Writing-Integrated Teaching (WIT) program, she will interview each month’s guest about their craft — for example, how has their writing practice changed during the pandemic? — followed by a Q&A with participants.
January’s guest writer is Courtney Jung, a professor in the Department of Political Science and the George Ignatieff Chair in Peace and Conflict Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy.
Jung received a PhD from Yale University, and taught for a decade at The New School for Social Research before moving to University of Toronto in 2008. She has written three books, including Then I Was Black: South African Political Identities in Transition (Yale University Press, 2000), The Moral Force of Indigenous Politics: Critical Liberalism and the Zapatistas (Cambridge University Press, 2008), and Lactivism: How Feminists and Fundamentalists, Hippies and Yuppies, and Physicians and Politicians made Breastfeeding Big Business and Bad Policy (Basic Books, 2015).
