Markus Stock named new principal of University College

Professor Markus Stock has been appointed the 17th principal of University College from January 1, 2020 – June 30, 2024.

Since joining the University of Toronto in 2005, Professor Stock has amassed a notable record of service in academic leadership and governance. He is currently Chair of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures with a cross-appointment to the Centre for Medieval Studies. Professor Stock is a valued member of various departmental, Faculty, and University Committees, including: Academic Board (2011–present); Academic Policies and Programs Committee (2013–present); the President’s International Council for Europe (2018–present); and the Advisory Committee for the U of T Libraries (2013–2016), amongst many others. In terms of service to the sector, he has been a member of the SSHRC Connection Grants Committee and an Academic Colleague on the Ontario Council of Universities (COU).
