Participation in the Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) is limited to eligible undergraduate students at the Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George campus. In addition to meeting eligibility criteria, students must also submit a supplementary application, as the ASIP stream of each program has limited enrolment.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to ASIP, students must meet the following core requirements:
- Be enrolled in an academic program that participates in ASIP.
- Be enrolled as a full-time student in the upcoming Fall/Winter session.
- Year 2 entry: Students entering second year with 4.0-8.5 credits completed. Year 2 students who exceed the 8.5 credit limit due to transfer credits (whether from secondary school or postsecondary studies), with up to 10 credits at the time of entry, will also be considered.
- Year 3 entry: Students entering third year with 9-13.5 credits completed. Year 3 entry is limited to students who enrolled in an eligible program in the summer after Year 2, but entry will be dependent on space and will require approval of both the student’s academic unit and the ASIP office. Refer to the Year 3 Entry Eligibility section below.
- Be in good academic standing or on probation at the time of application and must remain in good academic standing or on probation to continue in ASIP and apply for a work term.
- Be returning to full-time studies after completion of all work term requirements. Students returning for only one term must be enrolled in at least 1.5 credits in that term.
- Not currently participating in another co-op program at the University of Toronto.
- Both domestic and international students from eligible programs may participate. All international students require a valid work permit to participate in a work term.
- Students with part-time status may be considered for the program if they have received accommodation from the university. Students with accommodation needs should contact asip@utoronto.ca.
Questions about whether you are eligible to apply to ASIP? Please contact asip@utoronto.ca.
Eligible Programs
Only students enrolled in the following Faculty of Arts & Science programs at the St. George campus are eligible to participate in ASIP. For information about other experiential learning opportunities for Arts & Science students, visit the Research Opportunities and International Opportunities pages, or connect with the Experiential Learning Outreach & Support office at experiential.artsci@utoronto.ca.
Note: We are gradually expanding the list of ASIP-eligible programs following an annual review, academic unit consultations and labour market evaluation.
Year 3 Entry Eligibility
Students who enrolled in an eligible program in the Summer term after Year 2, including transfer students, may be considered for admission to the ASIP stream of their program for the Fall term of Year 3.
Some academic units have stipulated additional requirements for Year 3 entry to ASIP, outlined in the table below. Refer to the Academic Calendar’s entry for the given program for the official enrollment requirements. For exception requests, please contact your academic unit directly.

Additional considerations for Year 3 entry:
- The four professional development courses must be completed in two semesters instead of four (Fall: PDC230H1 and PDC330H1; Winter: PDC231H1 and PDC331H1) during your third year. Each course has about 2-3 hours of additional work on top of your job search activities, which can be time-intensive during peak recruitment periods. Year 3 is commonly academically intensive; before applying, we recommend speaking to your college’s Academic Advisor regarding the additional workload.
- The work experience component for Year 3 entry students may be completed as two back-to-back work terms (e.g., four month + eight or 12 month work term) or as one longer work term (e.g., 12 or 16 months).
- Priority for ASIP admission will be given to Year 2 entry students. Should space be available, the ASIP office will review Year 3 applications with the student’s academic unit to determine eligibility and suitability. An additional interview may be required as part of the admissions process.
