Keeping your body and mind busy while social distancing

March 23, 2020 by A&S News

Doing your part to help flatten the curve by social distancing or self-isolating at home? Keep your mind busy with courses from your couch, at home workouts, bingeable movies, TV and more.

At home workouts

Think you’re missing the right equipment for a great workout at home? U of T Sport & Rec has just the video for you. Grab a laundry basket, your favourite towel and a few bottles or cans and see how you can incorporate household items into your workout. Looking for something more low key? Calm your mind with a mindful breathing technique or a live online meditation session.

Bingeable movies, TV and more

Feeling social distance boredom? U of T’s Media Commons lending collection can help. U of T students, faculty and staff have access to both Kanopy and Criterion on Demand’s library of films, documentaries and other content — all free with your UTORid!

Courses from your couch

Looking for a way to connect with the wider world — or even the wider universe — while social distancing? Hear Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics faculty members along with partners from across U of T present on everything from Dark Matter and Dark Energy to Misconceptions about the Big Bang, all from the comfort of your own couch. All future talks will stream live on the Dunlap Institute YouTube channel!

Or enrol in The City and You: Find Your Best Place from the School of Cities’s Richard Florida. Where you’ll learn all about what cities do, why they matter and how to pick the right place for you.

Caring for your mental health

Taking steps to protect your physical health during a time of unease means taking care of your mental health and well-being

Take part in one of U of T Student Life’s upcoming Mindfulness and Meditation events, stay connected with your family, friends and colleagues, and remember to access mental health supports when you’re feeling overwhelmed, depressed or anxious.
