Description

Join the Technoscience Research Unit for the 2025 Technoscience Salon: The Geographies of Chemicals with Andrew Barry on Tuesday Jan. 28th from 4-6 pm at 700 University Avenue, Floor 10 - Seminar Room 10031.

This public talk will explore chemical geography; the political and geographical dynamics of chemical substances. Andrew Barry will examine three key themes—the temporality of chemical substances, the interplay of micro- and macro-chemical realms, and chemical sensing—to address the evolving question of "what is a chemical?" We ask that attendees register on the Eventbrite page here: tinyurl.com/TechnoscienceSalon

Andrew Barry is Professor of Human Geography at University College London. He is the author of Political Machines: Governing a Technological Society, Foucault And Political Reason: Liberalism, Neo-Liberalism And The Rationalities Of Government, Reconfigurations of the Social and Natural Sciences and Material Politics: Disputes along the Pipeline.

This event is part of the 2025 Technoscience Salon, hosted by the Technoscience Research Unit at the University of Toronto. Launched in 2008, the Technoscience Salon is an open forum for entangling intellectual and political questions about technoscience while remixing the disciplines composing Science and Technology Studies (STS). This year, the salon is asking: What is a Chemical?
