In the 2025-26 R. K. Teetzel Lecture in Art, ππ°π―π΅π³π’π₯πͺπ€π΅π°π³πΊ ππ³πΆπ΅π©π΄ (π’π§π΅π¦π³ ππ¦π΄π΄π¦π), acclaimed artist and University of Toronto alumna Deanna Bowen will briefly reflect on her return to Toronto to speak about dismantling the βmasterβs houseβ with the βmasterβs toolsβ in a series of interdependent exhibitions spanning 2010-25. The talk will specifically focus upon the critical success and deeply intimate process behind ππ©π¦ ππ°π₯ π°π§ ππ°π₯π΄: π ππ’π―π’π₯πͺπ’π― πππ’πΊ (2019), πππ’π€π¬ ππ³π°π―π¦π΄ πͺπ― π΅π©π¦ ππͺπ·π¦ (2020), ππ©π¦ πππ’π€π¬ ππ’π―π’π₯πͺπ’π―π΄ (π’π§π΅π¦π³ ππ°π°π¬π¦) (2022) and ππ©π¦ ππ°ππ₯π¦π― ππ²πΆπ’π³π¦ ππͺππ¦ (2024). Bowen will also speak to the personal significance of working with the National Gallery of Canada during the tenure of former Interim Director and CEO Angela Cassie. She will recount the ancestral wisdom that guided her through the profound trauma of confronting generationally recurrent anti-Black, White mob violence in Canada(βs media).
