From the Government of Canada’s efforts to put a price on carbon emissions, to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in Canada, scholars from a range of disciplines across the Faculty of Arts & Science are sharing their expertise on a variety of issues in the media.

March 26, 2021
- Department of Political Science and School of the Environment associate professor Jessica Green speaks in Grist about the Canadian government’s efforts to put a price on carbon emissions with a carbon tax.
- Professor Nelson Wiseman, also in the Department of Political Science, speaks about Canada’s carbon tax on Toronto’s Breakfast Television.
- Department of Mathematics professor Kumar Murty writes an op-ed in the Globe and Mail exploring the use of mathematical modelling throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Lynette Ong, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, comments in Global News on China’s introduction of sanctions against a Canadian member of Parliament.
- Matti Siemiatycki, a professor in the Department of Geography & Planning and interim director of the School of Cities, comments in the Toronto Star on the prospects for recovery across downtown Toronto after the COVID-19 pandemic ends.

- An op-ed authored by Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology assistant professor Megan Frederickson, first published in The Conversation and reprinted in the National Post, examines the risks of keeping ants as pets.
- Anver Emon, director of the Institute of Islamic Studies and a professor in the Department of History and the Faculty of Law, speaks in the Toronto Star about a new report analyzing the assessment of Muslim charitable organizations in Canada by the Canada Revenue Agency.
- Marzyeh Ghassemi, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Medicine, joins a discussion on TVO’s The Agenda about using artificial intelligence to combat COVID-19.

- An op-ed authored by Department of Sociology professor and chair Scott Schieman, first published in The Conversation and reprinted in the National Post, explores the loss of control felt by workers who lost their jobs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Professor Dan Breznitz of the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School and the Department of Political Science, comments in Global News about the challenges and opportunities surrounding Canada’s ability to provide vaccines to its citizens.
