A Symposium on Subversive States brings together an interdisciplinary roster of international scholars from performance studies, geography, law, accounting, and island studies to explore broad questions around notions of sovereignty. Centering the conversation on micronations (self-declared nation-states), Subversive States represents the first event hosted by a Canadian academic institution on the topic.
Featured speakers include: Dr. Harry Hobbs (UTS), Dr. Philip Hayward (UTS), Dr. Isabelle Simpson (McGill), Dr. Vincent Bicudo de Castro (Deakin University), and micronationalists including Dr. Eric Lis (Aerican Empire), Anna Ralls-Ulrich (Circle of Belmour), and Phil Pillin (Kingdom of Pibocip).
