The Explore Program is an intensive five-week French language program which takes place during the Summer session at various institutions across Canada (see list below). It is designed to help you discover another region of Canada, meet new people and exchange ideas while improving your knowledge of French.
Transfer Credit Eligibility
In order to receive transfer credit towards your Arts & Science degree, you have to complete the following steps:
- Review the Explore Programs offered through one of the following eligible institutions and select degree level courses (see below).
- Apply online to the Explore Program (note the program’s deadlines, which are usually in February). Ensure you select degree-credit courses for post-secondary students.
- If you are selected, follow the steps at the host institution to accept the offer.
- After you receive notice from the Explore Program of the university to which you have been accepted, apply for a Letter of Permission via the online application and remit the appropriate fee. When completing the application, ensure to mention that you are participating in the Explore program. It is also important to read and understand the rules and regulations surrounding the Letter of Permission.
- Upon receiving an approved Letter of Permission, proceed to register in degree-credit courses at the host institution – enrol in degree level courses that are at a higher level than the French courses you have already completed. Please save your notice of acceptance and proof of admission, as well as all course material for assessment (this includes course syllabi/outlines and coursework).
- Once you have completed the program/courses at the host institution, request an official, final transcript to be sent directly to the Faculty of Arts & Science. The transcript must be received no later than one month after completing the course.
- Digital Transcripts: The host university can send digital transcripts (pdf) to transfer.artsci@utoronto.ca.
- Printed Transcripts: The host university can mail printed transcripts to Transfer Credit Section, Office of the Faculty Registrar, University of Toronto, Sidney Smith Hall, 100 St. George Street, Toronto, ON M5S 3G3
- Schedule your mandatory French Placement Test. Note that you must complete the placement test within one year of completing the Explore Program and you must achieve one level higher than your last placement test in order to receive transfer credit.
- Email the French Placement Test results to transfer.artsci@utoronto.ca. Please include your student number with the test result.
