Portfolio
The Associate Dean, Unit-Level Reviews is responsible for the cyclical, unit-level University of Toronto Quality Assurance Programs (UTQAP) reviews. This includes working with departments, EDUs and programs on the development of their self-studies, external site-visits, Provostial responses and the implementation of accepted recommendations through the unit-level academic planning process.

Biography
Professor Kurz joined the University of Toronto in September 2024 after more than 18 years on faculty at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary where her research program focused on DNA topoisomerases, DNA damage and repair, and the impact of over-the-counter drugs on cancer chemotherapeutic efficacy. Professor Kurz’s educational scholarship includes a focus on curriculum design, incorporating both inquiry-based learning and universal design for learning into curricula, as well as emerging challenges in academic integrity.
Kurz is cross-appointed to the Department of Cell & Systems Biology (with the Human Biology Program) in the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
She is an award-winning educator, mentor and educational leader, having earned several of the University of Calgary’s top awards including the McCaig-Killam Teaching Award, the Killam Undergraduate Mentorship award, the University of Calgary Award for Educational Leadership and a University of Calgary Students’ Union Teaching Award.
She served for 10 years (2013–2023) in the Cumming School of Medicine as the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Health and Science Education) and Director of the O’Brien Centre for the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, a flagship research-focused undergraduate program that she co-developed at the University of Calgary.
Professor Ebba Kurz has been appointed Interim Associate Dean, Unit-Level Reviews effective July 1, 2025 until June 30, 2026.
