Dear A&S Undergraduate Students,

Effective immediately, the Faculty of Arts & Science has made the following changes for students enrolled in courses for the Winter 2020 term:

  • The deadline to drop a course offered this term has been extended to April 25, 2020. This applies to both S and Y courses.
  • The deadline to select Credit/No Credit (CR/NCR) for a course offered this term has been extended; students will be allowed to see their grades before selecting CR/NCR. This applies to both S and Y courses and includes courses for which this normally does not apply (e.g. First Year Foundations Seminars, Research Opportunities Program, etc.).
  • Each student can select an unlimited number of courses for CR/NCR.

These deadlines have been extended to give you time to carefully consider the course options available to you. Note that dropping courses and selecting CR/NCR may have implications for your academic record and your progress in completing program requirements. As always, we recommend that you contact your college registrar’s office for advice before reducing your course load.

I also confirm that students registered with Accessibility Services will continue to receive accommodations and supports as needed.

Additionally, as you have seen, the Faculty of Arts & Science no longer requires you to return to the St. George campus for the Winter 2020 session. Your instructors will be in touch with you about how this will impact the remainder of your course. In some cases, your instructor may suggest changes to your marking scheme, which you will vote for on online.

Finally, for those of you enrolled or thinking about enrolling in summer session classes: these may be delivered via a method other than in-person instruction (including online platforms) for part or all of the term. A final determination of delivery mode will be made by April 20 for F and Y summer courses, and by June 13 for S courses. Decisions regarding courses that cannot be accommodated online or that are to be cancelled will be communicated to students who have enrolled in those courses.

Please continue to monitor our FAQs website for updates. If you have any questions, contact ask.artsci@utoronto.ca.

I understand that this is a very difficult time for many of you – not only are things changing quickly with your courses, but many of you are away from home, friends and family during this global pandemic. If you are feeling distressed, please use the resources available to you, including 24/7 counselling services, on the U of T directory of health and community contacts. In an emergency, call 911.

I wish you all the best during the transition, and I’ll be in touch again with further information as it arises.

Sincerely,

Melanie A. Woodin

Dear Arts & Science Undergraduate Students,

We understand that many A&S undergraduate students are faced with difficult decisions regarding whether to return home, given the increasing challenges with international travel. We have decided that Faculty of Arts & Science undergraduate students will not be required to return to the St. George campus for the Winter 2020 session. More information to follow regarding completion of term work and exams. Students registered with Accessibility Services should continue to contact Accessibility Services to receive accommodations and supports.

Sincerely,

Melanie A. Woodin
