Pamela Klassen.

Pamela Klassen

Pamela Klassen is a professor in the Department for the Study of Religion and cross-appointed to the Department of Anthropology, where she teaches in areas of Christianity and colonialism in North America, religion in the public sphere, and religion, law, and gender. She currently holds the Anneliese Maier Research Award from Germany’s Humboldt Foundation, in support of a five-year international project entitled “Religion and Public Memory in Multicultural Societies”. Her most recent publication is The Story of Radio Mind: A Missionary’s Journey on Indigenous Land (University of Chicago Press, 2018). She was appointed Vice-Dean, Undergraduate & International in 2016.

As Vice-Dean, Undergraduate & International, Professor Klassen has focused on revitalizing curricular governance and programming, reinventing undergraduate education in the first year, and connecting undergraduates with research, city-based, international, and Indigenous-related study opportunities. She chairs or co-chairs several committees that involve faculty, student, and staff representation, including the Undergraduate Curriculum Committees, the Indigenous Teaching & Learning Dean’s Advisory Committee (co-chaired with Susan Hill), the First-Year Foundations Council (co-chaired with Charlie Keil), the Research Opportunity Program Advisory Committee, and the International Opportunities Committee, which supports international mobility for faculty and students.

Within the Dean’s Office, she has primary oversight of the Office of Teaching Support and Faculty Development and the newly established Office of Experiential Learning and Outreach Support.
