Pathways to U of T

The Arts & Science community is made up of a diverse group of students who have varied educational backgrounds, life experiences and many other qualifications. If you do not meet the academic requirements for admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science, we provide several programs that can allow you to access our academic opportunities.

Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program

With full-time and part-time options, the Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program bridges the gap between your prior education and the skills necessary for first-year university courses. When you successfully complete the Academic Bridging Program, you gain admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science with credit(s) toward your degree. If you have been away from school for at least two years, you may be eligible for admission.

  • Must be 19 years old by September 1 of application year 
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee or Protected Person 
  • Must have been away from formal, full-time education for at least two years
  • Completion of high school not required 
  • If you have previously attempted university courses, you are not eligible (exceptions considered)

Transitional Year Programme

The Transitional Year Programme (TYP) is a full-time, eight-month access-to-university program. Most TYP students have grown up in communities where very few people have access to higher education. It is meant for those who did not have an opportunity to finish high school or did not succeed in high school because of financial problems, family difficulties or other circumstances beyond their control.

  • Must be at least 18 years old by September 30 of admission year
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee or Protected Person
  • Must have left school early for reasons connected to social or economic difficulties, illnesses or some other personal problem beyond your control
  • If you have graduated high school, you must not have the necessary grades to get into a degree program on your own

Diploma to Degree Program

The Diploma to Degree Program is a college-to-university transfer program located at Woodsworth College within the Faculty of Arts & Science. If you are enrolled in a two-year arts and science diploma at one of our partner institutions, the Diploma to Degree Program could be your pathway to university studies.

  • Completion of two-year diploma with a 3.0 CGPA at one of our partner institutions 
  • Minimum of 60% in qualifying course at U of T
  • Receive a final recommendation from your college

65+ Program

If you are 65 years of age or older and would like to take undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Arts & Science, you can apply for the 65+ Program.

  • Must be 65 years old by the first day of the month in which you intend to begin your studies
  • Not eligible if you were previously registered at the Faculty of Arts & Science (in a college other than Woodsworth), University of Toronto Scarborough or University of Toronto Mississauga
