I’m delighted to welcome the entire Arts & Science community as we kick off the 2019-2020 academic year.
To those of you who are returning, I hope you found time for both adventure and relaxation over the summer and are ready to continue your activities with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
To those of you who are new to Arts & Science, please accept my warmest welcome. I’m thrilled you’re joining us. I hope you take advantage of our unparalleled array of offerings in both the arts and sciences, and the many opportunities and resources available to you. I also encourage you to explore and enjoy our location in the heart of Toronto — one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities.
It is a privilege to be serving as Dean (a role I assumed on July 1, 2019), and in the coming months I will be sharing in more depth with you my vision for the Faculty of Arts & Science, which at its core includes transforming the student experience, leveraging our disciplinary breadth, and further advancing our research excellence.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the course of the year – and I’d like to meet you in the places where you learn, teach, and research. I want to hear directly from you about your ideas for building a stronger, more connected Faculty of Arts & Science.
As the pace of life quickens throughout the term, we should all strive for balance in our pursuit of excellence. I invite you to join me in attending our upcoming Minds Redefined Health and Wellness Conference, a free event for all U of T community members — one of the many resources we’re developing to support mental health and wellness in our community.
On behalf of the entire A&S leadership team, let me once again welcome you to the 2019-2020 academic year.
Professor Melanie Woodin
Dean, Faculty of Arts & Science
