Welcome From the Dean

Melanie Woodin.Welcome to Arts & Science.

It is a privilege to be serving as Dean (a role I assumed July 1, 2019) of Canada’s largest and most comprehensive Faculty.

Our strength in the Faculty of Arts & Science comes from our combined excellence in the humanities, sciences and social sciences. The breadth and interdisciplinary nature of the Faculty is unique. The broad range of expertise, along with our setting in one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities, makes A&S an ideal global hub for research, teaching and innovation.

We are surrounded by opportunity. And every day, I am amazed by the impact our students, faculty, staff and alumni have on the world around us. As a proud alumna, and a faculty member and researcher in the Department of Cell & Systems Biology, I am excited to be in this role to help drive a clear vision and academic plan that guides us forward.

Throughout my term as Dean, I will be focused on how we will continue to thrive and move forward on the many exciting initiatives and opportunities outlined in our academic plan. At its core, our vision includes transforming the student experience, leveraging our disciplinary breadth and further advancing our research excellence. I want to build upon the interdisciplinary nature of Arts & Science to help faculty and students leverage the full range of opportunities this breadth provides and make a real impact on the issues facing our society. These goals will be realized through creating strong partnerships and an inclusive and accessible Faculty community.

I look forward to engaging with members of our community and working together to build a stronger, more connected Faculty.
