Residence Styles

The style of residence room you have varies depending on the college you are admitted to.  You may live in one of the following:

Apartment-Style Residences

Apartment-style residences (available at Innis College , Woodsworth College and Victoria College) are grouped together into self-contained 4 or 5 bedroom suites. Each suite has 1 to 2 washrooms, a full kitchen (which includes a refrigerator, self-cleaning stove and microwave oven - students must supply cookware, dishes and utensils), and a furnished living room. There is a thermostat in each suite that controls the suite's heating/air-conditioning unit.

The bedrooms are all single, private rooms with their own lock. Each bedroom includes a bed (with storage drawers), desk chair, filing cabinet and ample closet space. All rooms are pre-wired with jacks for phone, cable TV and Internet services. Having either phone or cable TV services connected is each resident's responsibility and entail additional costs.

Apartment suites are always shared among same-sex residents.

Dormitory-Style Residences

The other five colleges (New, Trinity, St. Michael's, University, and Victoria) and Chestnut Residence have traditional dormitory-style residences.

In your room, which you'll either have to yourself or share with a roommate, you'll have a desk, desk chair, a closet, waste paper basket and a study lamp.

Most dormitory-style residences have common washroom facilities, which may be single-sex or co-ed.

Services and Facilities

  • Laundry Room:  Students are responsible for doing their own laundry.  There are laundry rooms with washers and dryers in each residence.
  • Lounges:  Each residence will have a common lounge (more depending the size of the residence) in which to socialize, study, or watch tv.
  • Mail:  Mail is delivered to your mailbox in your residence.
  • Study Rooms:  Most residences have a study room as a quiet place to work on assignments or do your course readings.
