IMPORTANT NOTICE: water damage at basement level of Sidney Smith building

by Jessica Lewis — Thursday, Nov 20, 2014

There was water damage to the basement of the Sidney Smith Building on the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. The basement houses some laboratory space, classrooms, a cafeteria and other facilities.  Swift response by university staff was crucial in keeping damage to a minimum. Staff remain on the scene assessing the situation and cleaning up. The building is not a student residence. It includes several offices, classrooms and other facilities related to the University’s Faculty of Arts and Science. There were no injuries resulting from this incident.

Any classes or other activities that would have been held in the basement have been re-located as necessary. Information on classes scheduled to be held in the basement on Thursday, November 20 and Friday, November 21 is available on the Current Students website.

Update:

Floors 1 through 6 are not affected. Stairs and elevators are available, operational and safe to use from 1st floor to 6th floor.

Sid’s Café will be closed until Monday, November 24th.

The cafeteria ramp entrance outside Sid's Café (on Willcocks St.) is closed until further notice.

No persons will be allowed access to the entire sub-ground and ground floor areas of Sidney Smith Hall until Monday, November 24 at 7 am.
