January 10, 2012 – Computer science student uses video game to teach elementary school students

University of Toronto applied computing masters student Uzma Khan is exploring ways the video game Microsoft Kinext can help elementary school students with gesture and speech recognition.  The project is part of a  Topics in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) course.

"While we discussed various HCI papers in class, I constantly found myself applying the research ideas and techniques specifically to the user group of children… I thought that applications of these techniques could help tremendously in early childhood education," she says.
