November 17, 2011 – Art and science come together in hologram exhibit

by Jessica Lewis — Thursday, Nov 17, 2011

Art and science come together as holograms in The Next Dimension, an exhibit in the University of Toronto's Art Centre. The holograms were created by art and science students, alumni of a holography course taught by Emanuel Istrate of the Institute for Optical Sciences and art professor Michael Page.

To Istrate, the class is a fascinating union of the two fields.

"I want people who don’t normally work together to do so," he said. "There's too little contact between arts and science students; that's the main reason I teach the course."

The holograms are made through a computer animation program and then through laser prints. The exhibit runs until December 2.
