Statistics professor Jeffrey Rosenthal crunched the numbers to figure out that the Cleveland Cavaliers defied the odds to win the first pick in this year's NBA draft – the second time in two consecutive years and the third time in four years. He explained some sports statistical reasoning to the Toronto Star.
“There are so many different sports drafts and lotteries and contests... and, what’s the chance that somebody won something unexpectedly in the last year? That’s going to be very likely,” Rosenthal said. “It’s just when you look at one specific thing that you can say, well, that wasn’t that likely.”
