Faculty Programs

The Faculty Programs office is responsible for administering special Faculty-wide programs including:

  • First-Year Seminars (199 courses) are open only to newly admitted students. They are full-credit or half-credit courses that focus on discussion of issues, questions and controversies surrounding a particular discipline (or several disciplines) in a small-group setting that encourages the development of critical thinking, writing skills, oral presentation and research methods.
  • The Research Opportunity Program provides an opportunity for students in their second-year in the Faculty of Arts and Science to work on the research project of a faculty member in return for 299 course credit. The program serves to enhance the fundamental connection between teaching and research in a research intensive university.
