This event features two presentations on new technologies aimed at enhancing research and teaching of less-commonly-taught languages. Both speakers, Edward Garrett and David Germano, have been involved in the development of innovative, open-source software projects that focus on language teaching and linguistic research.
While both of these projects focus on research and teaching of Tibetan language, the demonstrations will spotlight the projects’ technological infrastructure, that is, the software and digital tools created for the projects, and not issues specific to teaching Tibetan. These tools are not language-specific and can be used for research and study of any language. These presentations will therefore be of interest to all language researchers and teachers, not solely those focusing on Tibetan.
- Presented by the Centre for the Study of Religion, with support from the Centre for South Asian Studies, New College, the Knowledge Media Design Institute, Project Open Source | Open Access, and the Resource Centre for Academic Technology, as part of the Year of Languages.
