International Course Module Program

Since the International Course Module (ICM) program was first introduced, students have traveled to destinations in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the United States. ICMs provide an opportunity for the incorporation of an intensive international experiential module into the framework of existing undergraduate courses. ICMs enhance students’ classroom learning in a wide range of areas through the application of course content to relevant resources around the globe.

Purpose of the Program

The purpose of the ICM program is to provide an opportunity for faculty members or students to incorporate an intensive international experiential module into the syllabi and the temporal framework of existing undergraduate courses. The ICM is designed to enhance students’ classroom learning in a wide range of areas through the application of course content to relevant resources outside of Canada.

Guidelines and Criteria

When developing proposals, the following guidelines and criteria should be considered:

  • The added value the proposed ICM would bring to regularly-listed courses.
  • How well the ICM conforms to stated academic and programmatic priorities.
  • How would the proposed ICM enhance student learning.
  • How innovative is the integration of the ICM into an existing course.
  • How this ICM might benefit the Arts & Science and broader community.

Submissions

Proposals may be submitted through the unit(s) under which the course is given. All proposals must include the full-time participation of a continuously appointed faculty member.

The first filter for all such proposals is the administrative unit (department, college or program), which will review and endorse each project and its budget before sending it forward. In the case of multiple submissions from the same department, college or program, each project must be given a priority ranking.

Timeline:

The call for submissions takes place in the spring.
