Daniel G. Hill Prize for Best Graduate Paper in Sociology

  • Established through the generous donations of various donors and matched by the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF).
  • It is awarded to the best sole or joint authored paper written during the past year (July 1st to June 30th ) by a graduate student in the Department of Sociology. Eligible papers may be on any topic in sociology, may be theoretical or empirical in their approach, and may use analytical method. Students must apply to the Department of Sociology with a copy of their essay. This award will be awarded annually. (OSOTF)

 Edie Yolles / Ontario Graduate Scholarship in the Department of Sociology (OGS)

  • Established by Mr. Morden Yolles on behalf of Mrs. Edie Yolles.
  • It is awarded to an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) recipient in the Department of Sociology.

 Muriel D. Bissell Award

  • Established by Mrs. Muriel D. Bissell.
  • It is awarded to a graduate student in the Department of Sociology who is strongly committed to research on the problems of development in third world countries. The recipient will ordinarily, but not necessarily, be from a third world country. Funds will be used to pay costs of research such as travel and subsistence for data collection, special training (off-campus), and/or the costs of professional development, such as travel to conferences where the recipient is presenting a paper.

 Tom Easterbrook Graduate Scholarship in Communications and the Mass Media

  • Established by Professor Frank W. Peers and matched by the Graduate Student Endowment Fund (GSEF).
  • This scholarship is open to graduate students in the Departments of History, Economics, Political Science, and Sociology who wish to pursue studies related to communications and the mass media in a social democratic society such as Canada. Applications should be submitted by April 1st to the Department of Political Science.
