Dr. Mercer Scholarship in Near Eastern and Islamic Studies

  • Established by Arthur K. Venables, Francis G. Venables and George T. Pepall.
  • It is awarded to a graduate student in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations.

 R. F. G. Sweet Award in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations

  • Established by the Near Eastern Studies Students' Association in 1994, in honour of Professor R. F. G. Sweet, former chair of the department of Near Eastern Studies, with additional support from his colleagues in the department.
  • Awarded to an undergraduate student in the specialist or major program in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. Graduate students will be eligible for the award if there are no suitable undergraduate candidates.

 T. J. Meek Prize in Hebrew Syntax (Undergraduate or Graduate Students)

  • Established through a generous gift of the late T. J. Meek, B.A., B.D., Ph.D., D.D., F.R.S.A., F.R.S.C., Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Studies.
  • It is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student submitting the best essay in an aspect of Hebrew syntax.
