Finnish Studies

Finnish studies at the University of Toronto are presently engaged in teaching the Finnish language - a three-year sequence - and in offering other courses on the literature and culture of Finland.


Admission Information

  • Students should apply to the Humanities admission category on the St. George campus
  • Six grade 12 U or M courses, including English are required
  • Students outside of Ontario should have the equivalent senior high school credits

  • FIN110H1 - Elementary Finnish II

 

Introductory Courses

The Department offers foundational 200-series courses in literature, culture, and film that are suitable for and open to first-year students who are encouraged to take the following courses which do not require special linguistic or academic preparation:

  • FIN230H1 - Finnish Culture 1800 to Present
  • FIN235H1 - Finnish Literature 1800 to Present
  • FIN240H1 - Masterpieces of Scandinavian Literature
  • FIN250H1 - Finnish Cinema; FIN260H1 Scandinavian Cinema
