  • Beginning January 2009, students will no longer receive transfer credit assessment letters or Letters of Permission/ Conditional Post Admission Assessment Letters in the mail. Once an application is processed, students will now receive an email notification with instructions on how to access their transfer credit assessment on-line. Please ensure that your UTOR email address is entered correctly on your transfer credit application.
  • Starting February 5, 2008, requests for Letters of Permission will be considered for select institutions outside of Canada and the United States. Click here to view the list.
  • Course equivalencies for Korea University and Yonsei University for 2012 summer session are now available.

Start Date for Letter of Permission Requests

Letter of Permission Requests for the Summer Session (May - August) begins in January.

Letter of Permission Requests for the Fall/ Winter Session (September - April) begins in May.

Requests for Letters of Permission and Requests for Transfer Credit are assessed in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Faculty of Arts and Science and, where necessary, in consultation with the departmental advisers for the disciplines being assessed.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to request a letter of permission or request transfer credit, you must:

  • be registered in a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science (Non-Degree Students are not eligible);
  • have at least a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 1.50 in the session prior to studies at the host institution;
  • be legitimately unable to attend classes in the Faculty of Arts and Science during the session for which transfer credit is being requested.

You are NOT eligible if you:

  • owe money to the university or are ineligible to register in the Faculty for any other reason (i.e., suspended);
  • have completed 20.0 full-course equivalents and the six 300/400 level courses required for an Honours Degree; have received ten full-course equivalent on-admission transfer credits or five full-course equivalent post-admission transfer credits [see Transfer Credit Chart];
  • have received a combination of on-admission and/or post-admission transfer credits equivalent to half of your degree; have received credit for a similar course or courses.

Transfer Credit Chart

The maximum number of transfer credits noted applies to St. George Arts and Science students pursuing a 20-credit degree. Pre-2001 St. George students may count no more than 7.5 transfer credits toward these 15-credit degrees.

If you received ‘A’ number of transfer credits on-admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science, you may also be eligible to receive up to a maximum of ‘B’ number of transfer credits for course work completed at another accredited post-secondary institution after your admission to a degree program in the Faculty.
