Policy on the Use of Main Public Spaces in Sidney Smith Hall
The Faculty of Arts and Science is committed to supporting student life on campus, as part of a high quality student experience. We recognize that students need quiet study space as well as space for social activities. At Sidney Smith Hall, one of the principal buildings of the Arts and Science community, we have provided room for both of these types of activities in our main public spaces.
The lobby, the east patio [on St. George Street], and the west patio [on Huron Street] are intended to be used for social activities. Campus student groups that are recognized by the U of T Office of Student Life Programs and Services may book space in these locations. For booking procedures and rules governing the use of these spaces, see below.
The east and west patio enclosures, comprising nearly 8000 square feet of additional space, will be available for student use beginning in the fall of 2004. The west patio enclosure will provide dedicated study space. The east patio enclosure will contain a Second Cup café, and will provide dedicated study space as well as quiet social space in the area adjacent to Second Cup.
