Step 5: Enrol in Courses
Arts & Science students enrol in courses online using the Student Web Service, or ROSI.
St. George Round of Enrolment: July 10 to August 14
From July 10 to August 14, enrolment is limited to St. George campus Arts & Science students (unless there are enrolment controls which give priority to students from other divisions). Each degree student is provided with a start day and time for course enrolment.
Priority Period in St. George Round of Enrolment (P indicator courses)
Enrolment controls for P indicator courses will be enforced from July 10 to August 8. Starting August 10 at 6:00 a.m., the enrolment controls will be removed and any remaining spaces are initially available to St. George campus Arts & Science students, unless specifically indicated otherwise.
Maximum Course Load During the Priority Period
The maximum number of courses you’ll be allowed to enrol in from July 10 to August 8 will be 5.0 full-course equivalents for full-time students. Starting on August 10 at 6:00 a.m., you’ll be allowed to enrol in up to one more full course equivalent.
Days with NO Course Enrolment
There will be NO course enrolment on the SWS on the following days:
- August 9
- August 13
- August 15
On these days DO NOT try to add or cancel courses, or change or cancel "waitlisted" sections.
Open Enrolment Round
Starting August 16 at 6.00 a.m., all students may enrol in non-restricted courses.
The dates for the open enrolment round are:
- August 16 to September 23 (for F/Y section code courses
- August 16 to January 20 (for S section code courses)
The last day to request, add courses or change sections that begin in September is September 23; for courses that begin in January, the last day is January 20, 2008. During the open enrolment round, you can add/cancel/change your course selections. Remember that some courses have waiting lists--check the Waiting List instructions for details.
Be sure to note any changes in enrolment controls during the open round of enrolment: Refer to the section on Enrolment Indicators for details.
Space in courses
It is University policy that the number of students enrolled in a course cannot exceed the capacity of the room as dictated by fire regulations. Some departments, for pedagogical reasons, assign lower capacities than room size.
The Faculty makes every attempt to ensure that the room assigned will accommodate the number of students expected to enrol; however, as there is not unlimited space to meet demand, some students may not obtain space in every course they want. You may add yourself to a waiting list for a course or courses, but this does not guarantee enrolment in the course(s); therefore, you are advised to select alternate courses in which to enrol in the event that you are unable to enrol in a course that is full.
We recommend that you prepare as flexible a timetable as possible, with as many alternative course choices as possible.
If a class is full on the last day to enrol and you are not officially enrolled in the course, you do not have the right to be in the class, and will not be granted late registration.
Timetable updates
Check "the Registrar’s Office web site":http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/current/undergraduate for any changes to courses being offered. The site is updated throughout the summer, so make sure you bookmark it and keep checking.
In addition, the Arts & Science Registrar’s Office sends the Timetable Update to your mailing address in late June.
The 2007-2008 Revised Timetable, which includes instructors, times, days and classroom locations, will be available on "the Registrar’s Office web site":http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/current/undergraduate, in the lobby of Sidney Smith Hall, and at college registrars’ offices in late August.
Cancelling courses and fees implications
If you decide that you do not want a course, you must cancel it as soon as possible. This applies to courses that you have waitlisted as well as those in which you are enrolled. Please do not occupy a space that you know you do not want. Only by cancelling the course using the SWS will your space become available to another student. (For AE, E, PE courses, after the department assumes control of enrolment—see the explanations starting on page 34—cancel at the department or your college registrar’s office). You will be responsible for any fees and academic penalties incurred if you do not cancel courses by the appropriate deadlines. The academic drop deadlines are listed at the beginning of this booklet; the refund deadlines will be available on the Student Accounts information sheet enclosed with your fees invoice and on the Student Accounts web site.
