Undergraduate Scholarships: Sociology

Dennis William Magill Award

  • Established through the generous donations of various donors.
  • (For Year IV) - Awarded to a graduating student who has completed the Specialist or Major Program in Sociology at the St. George campus and who has achieved the highest grade point average in all U of T St. George campus Sociology courses taken for degree credit.

 

Jacob and Jenny Rosenberg Scholarship
  • Established by the Estate of Wolfe Goldstein, in memory of his wife’s parents.
  • (For Year IV) - Graduating student in a Specialist, joint Specialist or Major program in Sociology. The recipient must enrol in a graduate program in Sociology at U of T or at another university (or institute for advanced study) satisfactory to the Department.

 

Kiyoharu and Kiyoaki Momose Memorial Scholarship in Sociology
  • Established by the Estate of the late Yoshiko Momose.
  • (For Year II/III) - Student in Sociology. The scholarship will rotate every third year between the Faculties of Arts and Science, Applied Science and Engineering, and Medicine.

 

Lorna Marsden Award
  • Established through the generous donations of various donors.
  • (For Year IV) - Awarded to a student in a Specialist program in Sociology who has completed all of the SOC specialist core courses (SOC101Y1, 200H1, 202H1, 203Y1, 204H1, 300H1, 376H1, 377H1, 387H1, 401Y1) and who has received the highest GPA in all U of T courses taken for degree credit.

 

Lorne Tepperman Prize in Public Sociology

  • Established by Professor Lorne Tepperman
  • (For All Years) - Awarded to the undergraduate student who has submitted the best paper on a topic of social significance in Canada at the time of submission, as chosen by a committee. The paper should be written for a general, non-academic audience, may not exceed 1000 words in length, and must be based on a paper submitted for credit the same year in a sociology course on the St. George Campus. Apply to the Department of Sociology by June 15.

 

McNab Scholarship in Sociology
  • Established by the Estate of the late Alberta McNab Daly.
  • (For Year III) - Student in the Specialist program in Sociology (as of the Faculty's official "count date" in November). 

 

Norman Bell Memorial Scholarship
  • Established through the generous donations from the friends and colleagues of the late Norman W. Bell.
  • (For Year III) - Awarded to an outstanding student in a Specialist Program in Sociology.  If there is more than one outstanding candidate, the award will be divided equally.

 

Rex Lucas Award
  • Established through the generous donations of various donors.
  • (For Year IV) - Student in the Specialist program in Sociology (as of the Faculty's official "count date" in November) who has received the highest mark in SOC302H1.

 

Sociology Faculty Bursary
  • Established through the generous donations of various donors to the Department of Sociology.
  • (For Year II/III) - One or more students enrolled in a program offered by the Department of Sociology.
