Undergraduate Scholarships: Philosophy

ethica Clinical Research Inc. Bioethics Scholarship in Honour of Professor Barry F. Brown
  • Established through a generous donation from ethica Clinical Research Inc.
  • Awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need, to an undergraduate student who has completed his/her second or third year and is enrolled in third or fourth year of the Specialist or Major Program of Bioethics.

 

George Kennedy Scholarship
  • Established by the Estate of the late George Kennedy (M.A. (1860), LL.D. (1877).
  • (For Year IV) - Graduating student whose program in fourth year includes at least three full course equivalents in Philosophy. Students taking more than one full course equivalent in English or History in their final year are not eligible.

 

John F. M. Hunter Memorial Scholarship
  • Established through the generous donations from the family, friends, and colleagues of the late John F. M. Hunter, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy.
  • (For Year III/IV) - Awarded to a Specialist (or joint Specialist) undergraduate student in the Department of Philosophy who has taken a course on Wittgenstein.

 

John MacDonald Scholarship in Philosophy
  • Established through a Bequest of the late Hon. John Sandford MacDonald, joint premier of the United Canada, 1862-64, first premier of Ontario, 1867-71.
  • (For Year II) - Student in second year, with an overall average of grade A, who has taken in that year at least two full course equivalents in Philosophy.

 

Scotia Capital Markets Bursary in Philosophy
  • Established through a generous donation from Scotia Capital Markets.
  • For Any Year/Grad) - Undergraduate student in the Department of Philosophy.

 

Sunflower Scholarship
  • Established by William Szuch, in memory of Raisa O. Kuzmenko and Lily I. Umyn.
  • (For Year II/III) - Student who is enrolled in a Major, joint Specialist, or Specialist program in Philosophy. The award will be made on the basis of financial need and academic improvement in philosophy. Apply to the Chair, Department of Philosophy, by April 1.

 

Thomas A. Goudge Scholarship in Philosophy
  • Royalty Payments for Pragmatism and Purpose: Essays Presented to Thomas A. Goudge, edited by L.W. Sumner, John G. Slater, and Fred Wilson (Toronto, Buffalo, London: University of Toronto Press, 1981).
  • (For Year III) - Student in the third year of the Specialist program in Philosophy who enrols in the fourth year of the program.

 

Thomas J. Lang Scholarship in Philosophy
  • Established through the generous donations from various donors to the Department of Philosophy’s Annual Fund.
  • (For Year III) - Student who is enrolled in a major, specialist or joint specialist program offered by the Department of Philosophy.
