Undergraduate Scholarships: Mathematics

Adel S. Sedra Undergraduate Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Established through the generous donations of various donors.
  • (For Year I) - Awarded on the basis of academic merit to an outstanding undergraduate student who has completed MAT 196 and MAT 197 (or the equivalent should these courses no longer be offered.  Financial need may also be considered.

 

Alfred T. DeLury Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Established through the generous donations from the friends of the late Alfred T. DeLury.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a student in a Specialist or Major Program in Mathematics.

 

Beatrice Evelyn Rodgers Scholarship
  • Established through a bequest of the late Beatrice Evelyn Rodgers.
  • (For Year IV) - Awarded to an outstanding student who achieved the highest sessional GPA in the Fourth Year of the Specialist Program in Mathematics and Physics.  Financial need may be considered.

 

Coxeter Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Established through the generous gifts from admirers, colleagues, and students of the late H.S.M. Coxeter.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Awarded to either undergraduate or graduate students on admission to the University of Toronto or at the in-course level who demonstrate exceptional achievement in Mathematics. 

 

Coxeter Scholarship in Mathematics (OSOTF)
  • Established through the generous gifts from admirers, colleagues, and students of the late H.S.M. Coxeter.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Awarded to either undergraduate or graduate students on admission to the University of Toronto or at the in-course level who demonstrate achievement in Mathematics.  Financial need must be considered, where academic merit will also be considered.

 

Fay and David Masson Scholarship
  • Established by the Estate of the late Fay Hinda Masson.
  • (For Any Year)- Awarded to a student in a Specialist Program in Mathematics.

 

G. David Scott Scholarship
  • Established through the generous donations from the friends and colleagues of Professor G. David Scott, Professor of Physics at the University of Toronto.
  • (For Year II/III) - Awarded to a student in the Specialist Program in Physics or in Mathematics and Physics.  Financial need must be considered, where academic merit will also be considered.

 

Hans Heilbronn Prize
  • Established my Mrs. Dorothy Heilbronn, in memory of her late husband Hans Heilbronn, M.A., D.Phil., F.R.S., F.R.S.C., Professor in Department of Mathematics, 1964-1975.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a student in a Specialist or Major Program in Mathematics.

 

Harry Boxen Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Established through a generous gift from Dr. I. Boxen.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a student enrolled in a Specialist Program in Mathematics.  To be awarded on the basis of financial need.  Academic merit will also be considered.

 

Herbert Edwin Chadburn and Florence Grace Chadburn Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics and Physics
  • Established by the Estate of Florence Grace Chadburn.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to undergraduate student(s) in the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics.  Recipient(s) must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated financial need.

 

Ivan Szak Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Established by Mr. Ivan Szak.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a student in any year of a Specialist Program in Mathematics.

 

Ivan Szak Scholarship in Mathematics and Physics
  • Established by Mr. Ivan Szak.
  • (For Year II/III) - To an outstanding student in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Specialist Program in Mathematics and Physics.

 

Margaret Ronald Taylor and Thomas Paxton Taylor Scholarships in Mathematics
  • Established by the Estate of Georgia Muriel Taylor.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Awarded to either undergraduate or graduate students on admission to the University of Toronto or in-course level who demonstrates exceptional achievement in Mathematics.  Financial need of the candidate may also be considered.

 

Nicholas Martin Prize in Mathematics
  • Established in memory of Nicholas Martin, who died on July 13, 2001, of complications from surgery, aged 19; by his friends and family.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to the student in MAT 157 (or the first year Mathematics course for Specialists) who most demonstrates excellence and leadership, and inspires excellence among classmates.

 

Norman Stuart Robertson Scholarship in Mathematics
  • Three awards to $4000.00 each.
  • University of Toronto.
  • Established by the University of Toronto.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a student in a Specialist or Major Program in Mathematics.

 

Robert Barrington Leigh Scholarship
  • Established through donations from the faculty, staff, family, fellow students, and friends of Robert Barrington Leigh.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to undergraduate student(s) in the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics on the basis of financial need.  Academic merit will also be taken into consideration.

 

Samuel Beatty In-Course Scholarship
  • Established by the Samuel Beatty Fund and through donations from the family, friends and colleagues of Samuel Beatty.
  • (For II, III or IV) - To be awarded to students enrolled in a specialist program offered by the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Statistical Sciences, based on academic merit. Financial need will also be considered. Contact the Department of Mathematics for the application and deadline.

 

William Mulock Prize in Mathematics and Physics
  • Established by a gift from the late Rt. Hon. Sir William Mulock (P.C., M.A., LL.D., Q.C., Vice-Chancellor (1881-1900), and Chancellor of the University (1924-1944).
  • (For Year II/III) - Awarded to an outstanding student in the Specialist Program in Mathematics and Physics.  The recipient will also win the William R. Hossack Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics and Physics.

 

William R. Hossack Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics and Physics
  • Established through the generous gifts from friends, family, and associates of the late William Ross Hossack, B.A. (1948), Ph.D., who was killed in an automobile accident in 1961.
  • (For Year II/III) - Awarded to an outstanding student in the Specialist Program in Mathematics or Physics.  The recipient will also win the William Mulock Prize in Mathematics and Physics.

 

W. W. Sawyer Scholarship in Mathematics

  • Established by Walter Warwick Sawyer in  honour of Mathematics Professor Emeritus W.W. Sawyer.
  • To be awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student on admission to the University of Toronto or at the in-course level who demonstrates exceptional achievement in mathematics.
