Undergraduate Scholarships: Italian Studies

Ambassador of Switzerland Prize in Italian
  • Established through a generous gift of the Ambassador of Switzerland.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to an outstanding student in Italian.

 

Beatrice Corrigan Scholarship in Italian
  • Established by the friends and colleagues of the late Professor Beatrice Corrigan, M.A., Ph.D., D.Litt., F.R.S.C.,  Professor of Italian at the University of Toronto, to commemorate her devotion to Italian Studies and her outstanding achievements as a teacher and scholar in this field.
  • (For Year II) - Second year student in a Specialist or Major program in Italian who has taken at least two full course equivalents in Italian numbered 200 or above in that year.
  • (For Year III) - Third year student in a Specialist or Major program in Italian who has taken at least two full course equivalents in Italian numbered 300 or above in that year.

 

Castrilli Family Scholarship

  • Established in honour of Dr. Annamarie P. Castrilli, Chair of the Governing Council of the University of Toronto, 1993-95, by the National Congress of Italian Canadian, Toronto District.
  • (For Any Year) - To be awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in a Specialist or Major program offered by the Department of Italian Studies.

 

Department of Italian Studies Grant
  • Established through the generous donations of various donors who patronized the gala film evening held on March 13, 1975 at the St. Clair Cinema and organized by the Chairman of the Department of Italian Studies and members of the local Italian community.
  • (For Year II/III) - Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a Program offered by the Department of Italian Studies on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

 

Department of Italian Studies Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

  • Established by various donors.
  • (For Any Year) - To be awarded to an undergraduate student in the Department of Italian Studies on the basis of financial need. Academic merit may also be considered.

 

Emilio Goggio Undergraduate Scholarship
  • Established by brothers Dr. Alfredo Goggio and Mr. Ernest Goggio in memory of their father, Professor Emilio Goggio, and the Associates of the University of Toronto.
  • (For Year I) - Awarded to a financially needy student who has obtained the highest mark in an introductory course in Italian language.

 

First Milton A. Buchanan Scholarship in Italian Studies
  • Established by the Estate of the late Professor Milton A. Buchanan, Professor Emeritus and late Chairman of the Department of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • (For Year II) - Awarded to a student enrolled in a Program offered by the Department of Italian Studies who will be spending one or two terms at a university in Italy as part of the Study Elsewhere Program.  While in Italy, the recipient must be enrolled in at least two full course equivalents in Italian. Contact Department of Italian Studies for application and deadline information.

 

Gianrenzo Clivio Memorial Scholarship in Linguistics & Dialectology
  • Established through the generous donations of the family, friends, students and colleagues of Professor Gianrenzo Clivio.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to a Major or Specialist in the Department of Italian Studies studying Linguistics & Dialectology. To be awarded on the basis of academic merit.

 

Istituto Italiano di Cultura Award
  • Established by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
  • (For Year II/III) - Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a Program offered by the Department of Italian Studies.

 

Italian Studies GRADitude Scholarship
  • Established through the generous donations of graduating students in Italian Studies.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in either a Major or Specialist Program in the Department of Italian Studies on the basis of financial need and academic merit.

 

Jean Arnold Tory Scholarship
  • Established by the Estate of Kathleen Jean Tory.
  • (For Any Year) -  Student who is enrolled in a Major or Specialist program in Italian who has completed ITA 350Y.

 

John A. Grohovaz Italo Canadian Youth Club Bursary
  • Established by the Italian Canadian Benevolent Corporation.
  • (For Year III) - Student enrolled in a Major, Specialist, or joint Specialist program in Italian; based on overall achievement in Italian courses. The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

 

Michael Ukas Scholarship in Italian Studies
  • Established by Professor Emeritus Michael W. Ukas in memory of his daughter Margaret who died tragically on March 29, 1982.
  • (For Year II) - Student who is enrolled in a Major or Specialist program in Italian who has successfully completed a second year course in Italian.

 

S. Bernard Chandler Scholarship in Italian Studies
  • Established by Mrs. Pearl Chandler.
  • (For Year II) - Student in the Department of Italian Studies on the basis of academic merit. Financial need may also be considered.

 

Second Milton A. Buchanan Scholarship in Italian Studies
  • Established by the Estate of the late Professor Milton A. Buchanan, Professor Emeritus and late Chairman of the Department of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • (For Any Year) - Awarded to students attending the University of Toronto Summer Program in Siena.  While in Siena, applicants must be enrolled in at least one full course equivalent in Italian.
