Undergraduate Scholarships: Geography

Ben Shindman Scholarship
  • Established through the gifts of the family and friends of the late Ben Shindman.
  • (For Year III) - It is awarded to an outstanding in a Specialist or double Major Program offered by the Department of Geography.

 

Daniel Wilson Scholarship in Science
  • Established through a bequest of the late William Christie, Esq. in honour of Sir Daniel Wilson, Kt., LL.D., F.R.S., President of the University College, 1890-1892, President of the University 1889-1892.
  • (For Year II/III) - Student in a program offered by the Department of Geography.

 

Edward Blake Scholarship in Geography
  • Established through a gift of the late Hon. Edward Blake, Chancellor of the University, 1876-1900.
  • (For Year II/III) - The award will rotate on an annual basis between the Department of Geography and Geology.  In Geography it will be awarded to a second or third year student enrolled in a program offered by the Department of Geography.

 

F. Kenneth Hare Scholarship in the Environment
  • Established through gifts from the Friends of the University of Toronto.
  • (For Year III/IV) - Student enrolled in the Specialist or Major program in Environment and Resource Management or Physical and Environmental Geography. Preference will be given to Trinity College students. Financial need may be considered.

Financial need may also be considered for both awards.

 

John Horner Undergraduate Scholarship in Geography

  • Established by John H.R. Horner (B.A, Geography, 1962; M.A., Geography, 1967).
  • (For Any Year) – To be awarded to an undergraduate student in the Department of Geography based on academic merit. Financial need will also be considered.

 

Sidney and Lucille Silver Scholarship
  • Established by family members in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Silver’s 50th wedding anniversary.
  • (For Year III) - An outstanding student in a Specialist or double Major program in environmental studies.

 

Undergraduate Alpar Grant
  • Through the donations of the alumni and friends of the Department of Geography, University of Toronto, the grant was established in honour of the late Zehra Alpar, the Department’s student advisor for many years spanning the 1960s through 1990s.
  • (For Any Year) - Undergraduate student enrolled in a Specialist or Major program offered by the Department of Geography who is making good progress to the completion of the degree requirements. Apply to the Department of Geography by June 1, October 1 or February 1.

Undergraduate Alpar Scholarship
  • Through the donations of the alumni and friends of the Department of Geography, University of Toronto, the grant was established in honour of the late Zehra Alpar, the Department’s student advisor for many years spanning the 1960s through 1990s.
  • (For Year III/IV) - To be awarded to a senior undergraduate student enrolled in a Specialist or Major Program offered by the Department of Geography who has demonstrated excellence in his/her studies.

 

Undergraduate Anne McMaster Grant
  • Through the donations from the alumni and friends of the Department of Geography, University of Toronto, the fund was established in honour of Anne McMaster, former business officer who provided over 27 years of outstanding service to the Department, on the occasion of her retirement in 1994.
  • (For Any year) - Awarded, on the basis of financial need, to undergraduate students enrolled in a Specialist or Major program offered by the Department of Geography for such costs as Departmental field trips, field courses, professional experience courses, undergraduate research expenses, etc. Academic merit may also be considered. Apply to the Department of Geography by June 1, October 1 or February 1.

 

Undergraduate Anne McMaster OSOTF Grant
  • Various donors.
  • Awarded, on the basis of financial need, to undergraduate students enrolled in a Specialist or Major program offered by the Department of Geography for such costs as Departmental field trips, field courses, professional experience courses, undergraduate research expenses, etc. Academic merit may also be considered. Apply to the Department of Geography by June 1, October 1 or February 1.

William G. Dean Scholarship in Geography for Field Research
  • Established through a generous donation from Dr. William G. Dean.
  • To be awarded to one or more students enrolled in a specialist or major program in the Department of Geography for field research. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
