Andrew Tsang Memorial Scholarship in Sino-Canadian Studies

 

  • Established through donations from the family, friends, and business associates of the late Andrew Tsang.
  • (For Any Year) - Student in the Department of East Asian Studies whose academic performance and extracurricular activities best exhibits commitment to Chinese-Canadian cultural and economic ties. Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by April 1.

 

C.C. Shih Academic Achievement Award

 

  • Established through various donations to the Department of East Asian Studies.
  • (For Any Year) - One or more students in a program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies.

 

Chirzuru Suzuki Memorial Scholarship in Japanese Literature and Japanese Studies

 

  • Established through donations from the family, friends, and associates of the late Ms. Chizuru Suzuki.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Undergraduate or graduate student in program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic performance in Japanese studies and activities promoting Japan-Canada cultural ties. Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by April 1.

 

Clement Lee Memorial Scholarship in Chinese Studies

 

  • Established through a donation from Andy and Lucia Lee Rubaszek and matched by OSOTF II.
  • (For Year III) - Student(s) with the best marks in third year, or any third year student with an emphasis on Chinese studies.

 

Okamatsu Japanese Book Award

 

  • Established by Mr. Yoshihisa Okamatsu of Kyoto, Japan.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Student in Japanese Studies. Preference will be given to graduate students. Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by April 1.

 

Reverend Doctor James Scarth Gale Scholarship in East Asian Studies

 

  • Established through a bequest from the estate of George J.M. Gale.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Scholarship to be awarded based on academic merit to an undergraduate or graduate student, in support of his/her study or research in East Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, etc.) Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by March 20.

 

Ross H. Macdonald Scholarship

 

  • Established through donations from the colleagues and friends of the late Professor Ross Macdonald.
  • (For Year III/IV) - Awarded to a student enrolled in a Program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies, for language study in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by April 1.

 

Sharp Electronics Scholarship in Japanese

 

  • Established through an annual donation from Sharp Electronics of Canada Ltd.
  • (For Any Year) - Student in a program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies who has completed EAS120Y, EAS 220Y, 320Y, 460H or 461H.

 

Sigmund Samuel Scholarship in East Asian Studies

 

  • Established through a gift from the late Sigmund Samuel, Esq. LL.D.
  • (For Any Year) - Student in a program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies that includes at least two full course equivalents in East Asian Studies.

 

Ting Fang Chung Scholarships

 

  • Established through a bequest from the late Mr. Ting Fang Chung.
  • (For Any Year/Grad) - Student in the Dept. of East Asian Studies, to continue education at a university in China; or Chinese student resident in China, to continue education in the Department of East Asian Studies. Apply to the Department of East Asian Studies by April 1.

 

Tsutae and Hanako Sato Scholarship in Japanese

 

  • Established through a gift of Tsutae and Hanako Sato who together taught Japanese language for over half a century to Japanese-Canadian children.  The award is offered to commemorate 100 years of Japanese immigration to Canada.
  • (For Any Year) - Student in a program offered by the Department of East Asian Studies who has completed   EAS320Y1 or EAS460H1 + 461H1.
