Asia Pacific - Dr. David Chu Scholarship in Asia Pacific Studies

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to students who are pursuing studies or research related to the Asia Pacific region.
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.  Ontario residents are given priority.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.

Any Destination - Walter and Mary Tuohy Award in Arts and Science

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to students who are undertaking a period of study at an international post-secondary institution or pursuing international field work in conjunction with their U of T program.
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.  Ontario residents on OSAP are given priority.
  • Undergraduate students only.

Any Destination - Undergraduate Research Fund 

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to students doing research initiated by the student, related to their degree, and supervised by a faculty member either through a course, an independent study, a research essay or other academic project.
  • Undergraduate students only.

Israel - Andrea and Charles Bronfman Student Awards in Israeli Studies

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to students studying Israel.
  • Preference is given to students travelling to Israel for study or research.
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.  Ontario residents are given priority.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.

Israel - Canadian Friends of The Hebrew University Awards 

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to students undertaking a course, research or other academic endeavor in collaboration with the Hebrew University
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Students receiving OSAP student loans should contact the Centre for International Experience regarding their application process.
  • Students who are not receiving OSAP student loans are eligible to apply for this award through the Office of the Faculty Registrar, Faculty of Arts & Science.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.

United States – Associates of the University of Toronto Awards for Study of the United States

Variable amount, based on proposal and competition

  • Awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in the American Studies program or graduate students undertaking research or study related to the United States.
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.  Ontario residents are given priority.
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.

Germany/Europe - Joint Initiative in German and European Studies

Variable amount

  • Awarded to students intending to study German and European Studies through Woodworth’s Summer Abroad program.
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.  Ontario residents on OSAP are given priority.
  • Apply to the director of the Joint Initiative in German and European Studies Program.
  • Undergraduate students only.

Hungary - Husky Energy Hungarian Student Exchange Program

Variable amount

  • Awarded to students intending to study abroad
  • Students must be currently enrolled in at least one Hungarian studies course
  • Students require demonstration of financial need.
  • Apply to Hungarian Studies Department 
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.

Italy - The First Milton A. Buchanan Scholarship in Italian Studies

 $1,500 for one term, $3,000 for two terms

  • Awarded to students in their second year enrolled in a program offered by the Department of Italian Studies who will be spending one or two terms at a University in Italy as part of the Study Elsewhere. 
  • While in Italy, the recipient must be enrolled in at least two full course equivalents in Italian
  • Apply to the Department of Italian Studies

Italy – The Second Milton A. Buchanan Scholarship in Italian Studies

$1,000

  • Awarded to the Faculty of Arts and Science students attending the University of Toronto Summer Program in Siena
  • All students enrolled in an Italian course in Siena will be considered for the award
  • Applications will be on the Italian Studies website

Japan -Bento Sushi Foundation Scholarship 

$5,000

  • Used to support a student participating in an outbound exchange in Japan.
  • Preference is given to a domestic, Rotman Commerce student who have demonstrated a new interest in Japan
  • Apply through CIE

Russia - Nancy Park Travel Scholarship to Russia

Variable amount

  • Recipient must have completed, or is currently enrolled in, a third year Russian language course or equivalent
  • Awarded to students whose undergraduate program includes at least one joint graduate/undergraduate course
  • The recipient must undertake an internship in Russia, for a minimum of six weeks with a total stay in Russia of at least 10 weeks
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply
  • Apply to the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature by January 15

Spanish Speaking Country - Doris May Barker Scholarships

$2,000 or more

  • Awarded to students studying in the winter or summer session in a Spanish-speaking country
  • Preference is given to students who are enrolled in a specialist or major program in Spanish on the St. George campus and who have not previously won the Buchanan Scholarship
  • Preference is given to Ontario residents demonstrating financial need
  • Apply to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese by April 1
  • Undergraduate students only

Spain, Portugal, Latin America - Milton A. Buchanan Scholarship in Spanish and Portuguese

 $1,500 for one term, $3,000 for two terms

  • Awarded to students spending one or two terms at a University Student Exchange Program, Self-Designed Program and Woodsworth College Summer Program  
  • Applicants must have completed at least two full course equivalents in Spanish and/or Portuguese with a B average or better
  • Apply to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese by April 1
  • Undergraduate students only
